Aston Martin DBS Volante
Aston Martin have now officially gone bananas with YET ANOTHER new car for us to drool over. First it started out as their LMP Le Mans racer, then it stepped up to the V12 Vantage, and now this.
And look at it. Although the only pictures seemingly available have the roof down, you've gotta say, it looks very good. That said though, the DB9 Volante looks fine with the roof down, but when it goes up, all is lost. It will be interesting to see what this car really looks like later this year (most likely at Geneva).
The engine - exactly the same as the regular DBS which means 0-60 in 4.3 seconds, which is also the same as the hardtop, strange considering this convertible weighs 90kg more.
Aston say that with strengthening bars and the space-frame chassis, this car is twenty-five percent stiffer than the DB9 Volante, although it's suspected it will still be twenty-five percent less stiff than the hardtop.
Roof - well that's fabric with a special sound insulating material, although I'd never put it up, because I bet it'll sound as good as the hardtop as well. It will also apparently retract in just 14 seconds.
The car also has five settings for the rear dampers, and reporting media have said they range from "Ouch, that's stiff," to "Oh, that's much nicer." Aston say these will probably not be the official names.
Let's hope it doesn't appear bent when the roof is down, and that they're not all going to be locked away in garages!
