Drinking age to 21?

A Facebook campaign was recently brought to my attention, to stop the legal drinking age in the UK from being raised to 21.

I had no idea this was the case, but apparently on March 1st, the government will announce whether this will come into action or not. If it is the case and they do make this the new law, it will come into effect as early as April.

Over 48,000 people have signed the Facebook petition to keep it at 18, what do you think?

It's 18 in Australia, and has been for as long as I can remember. I wouldn't mind it older (I'm only 17 myself, but have no intention of drinking alcohol much), because you hear too many stories here of people being excessively drunk...

It wouldn't help anyway. Even now we hear of 13(!!) year olds being drunk regularly. Upping it would make no difference what so ever.

A little off topic but in times such as this we talk about buying and selling products to stimulate the economy, odds are 18-20 year olds do alot of alcohol sales in the UK. Take away that factor from small shops and what really do they have left?

i really dont think it will help the problem

It's a case of wanting what you can't have - alcohol will become like gold to those who can't buy it yet, they need to get over the 18 benchmark and get bored of drinking.
